The gastric sleeve and the endoscopic sleeve share a similar goal, reducing the size of the stomach, but they are performed differently and are not interchangeable.
The gastric sleeve is a surgical procedure: part of the stomach is removed, leaving a smaller, tube-shaped stomach. It is usually done with minimally invasive techniques.
The endoscopic sleeve is performed through the mouth with an endoscope, without external incisions. Internal stitches reduce the size of the stomach without removing tissue.
Which one fits depends on your body mass index, your health conditions, your history and your goals. Neither option is the best for everyone.
That is why the decision is made in an individual evaluation, where you can raise all your questions and compare the alternatives with your surgeon.
This article is general and informational; it does not replace a medical evaluation. Every case is different and is defined in an individual consultation.
